Philosophy
When I think of leadership, I think of someone who calls to their team, “work with me”. I see a coach whose intention is to uplift the organization, attain the goal, and grow the people who work alongside them. To me, a leader is someone who spends more time listening, thinking, and understanding than ordering others to perform. They get things done and work towards a mission but do not lose sight of their people along the way. They take care of their team first and foremost.
As I have learned more about leadership, I have concluded that a leader is not at all what you see in the movies. I came to understand that a leader is not “perfect”. In truth they don’t know everything, and they certainly don’t always make the right choices. But what makes a leader special is the care, the respect, and the willingness to learn and grow that accompanies all that they do.
My Why
My "Why"
My "Why"
The motto that I have come to embrace in the last year is “help people help themselves”. I value growth in myself and in individuals. Connecting people to the resources that they need to shine is, I believe, the mark of a true leader. This can be seen in my past internships at Seattle's Neighborhood Greenways and at the Seattle's Community Liaison Program, where the focus was to empower the local community. My goal is to continue and help communities engage, sustain themselves, and grow.
Future Goals
As I move into the future, I plan to join grassroots organizations to help support historically undeserved communities in Seattle. I want to work on issues of equity and how the uses of art and technology can help elevate those who are in need of a boost. I also have an interest in online communities, especially those who are home to artists around the globe and the connections that they form as they continue down their paths as creators.
